nation&#8217;s demand for steel and, in turn, iron ore.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Much of this product has traditionally come from Western Australia\u2019s Pilbara region.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And major players like BHP and Rio Tinto have kept an eye on Fe&#8217;s performance, diversifying their portfolios to minimise reliance on it. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BHP has a thriving copper business, while Rio has diversified into critical minerals and clean aluminium smelting.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, others like Fortescue and Roy Hill have a harder road to travel.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And both companies pay more to unearth their iron ore from the ground. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the guidance of Andrew Forrest, Fortescue is exploring alternative fuels, mainly hydrogen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Gina Rinehart\u2019s Roy Hill pursues its own decarbonisation, automation and efficiency metrics. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Efforts are underway in the Pilbara to move iron ore up the value chain and into precursors for clean steelmaking; however, the days of mammoth export profits could be behind us. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But rather than spelling doom for Australia\u2019s economy, the decline of Iron Ore could open the door for a shift towards the critical minerals essential for the energy transition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Can EV Technology Drive the Next Australian Mining Boom?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the tides shift, miners will look for new minerals alongside new sourcing methods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rise of Lithium highlights the incredible demand currently developing for rare and battery-orientated minerals. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And as the world\u2019s largest supplier of Li (with <\/span><b>over 50%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> alone) and most of the world\u2019s reserves, Lithium is an obvious candidate for Australia\u2019s next mining boom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rare earths are a wide-ranging and diverse category, and where iron ore was relatively cheap to pull out of the ground, these minerals are more cost-intensive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>However, demand remains strong:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/globalroadtechnology.com\/\/electric-vehicle-transition-in-the-mining-industry\/\">Electric Vehicle (EV)<\/a> production rose to a record high with over 30% growth worldwide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Annual production surpassed 10 million cars for the first time, up from 2021\u2019s total of 6.7 million.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tesla remained the USA\u2019s largest producer, with 1,314,319<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cars made and a 40% improvement year on year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elon\u2019s Baby fell well behind the Chinese car manufacturer BYD, however, which grew at 211%, rolling 1,858,364 EVs off the production line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These figures are expected to continue until 2030, when Tesla hopes to produce <\/span><b>20 million<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> vehicles annually. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This aligns with the Australian Government\u2019s outlook that by 2030, 50% of all new vehicles purchased will be EVs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Building on a Platform of Steel<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to the boom in iron ore exports and mining operations \u2013 not to mention the profits \u2013 Australia possesses an extensive and world-leading mining infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Central to the issue is our vast mineral wealth, including rare elements and battery minerals.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without this, no amount of money or motivation would help miners.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Australia is the world\u2019s second-largest producer of light and heavy rare earths, with large, high-quality reserves in stock. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And as the world demands more batteries, EVs and solar panels, our investment in future-focussed minerals will pay significant dividends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps not as large as those during the peak of iron ore, but more than enough to keep Australia at the forefront of mining for many years to come.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Predictions are that Australia\u2019s iron ore boom could be over.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With declining demand in China and other suppliers entering the market, it&#8217;s time for miners to shift focus. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Namely towards the energy transition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:
