Dust is produced in mining and quarrying operations when rocks and other materials are blasted, crushed, or transported \u2013 or pretty much everywhere.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Agriculture:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ag is another dust-generating enterprise, and the apparent sources include ploughing, tilling, and harvesting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Transportation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Discounting sealed roads, dust is kicked up from the movement of vehicles on unpaved roads or from the transportation of materials such as sand, gravel, and coal on roadways.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Landfills:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> At the tip, dust can be generated from the movement of waste materials in, from the excavation of landfill sites or by the wind across unprotected areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Industrial activities:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Not to be left out, various industrial activities such as manufacturing, processing, and storing materials also produce a dust hazard.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Natural sources: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t forget generation from natural sources like wind erosion of soil, wildfires, and volcanic eruptions (if you\u2019re unlucky enough to be near one).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, let\u2019s take a look at the rules and regulations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Fugitive Dust Regulations: What you Need to Know<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Down Under, we have several regulations and guidelines around the control of fugitive dust.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each of these aims to protect human health, the environment, and public infrastructure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Our central regulations include the following:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>National Environmental Protection (Air Quality) Measure (NEPM):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This national framework sets air quality standards for ambient air across Australia.
