heaters and the industrial world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sea salt is also considered a common source of PM10 particles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a variety of PM types, but here are some of the main ones:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nitrates<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sulphates<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organic chemicals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Metals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soil or dust particles and allergens (like fragments of pollen or mould spores)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PM10 are small enough to travel through the throat and nose before entering the lungs, which is the main issue.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And once inhaled, the particles can affect the heart and lungs and cause severe flow-on health effects.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are the potential health implications of PM10?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High levels of PM10 in the immediate atmosphere can cause you to cough, your nose to run, and your eyes to sting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the fun stuff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For people with heart or lung conditions, the symptoms can be more worrying and include wheezing, chest tightness and difficulty breathing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In reality, exposure to PM can cause a range of health effects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And at this point, we have no threshold below which exposure to PM doesn&#8217;t come with adverse health effects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, multiple studies have shown a link between exposure to particles and increased hospital admissions, alongside death from heart or lung diseases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short and long-term exposure to PM is thought to affect the body in different ways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hours or days of exposure can lead to:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Irritated eyes, nose and throat<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aggravated asthma and lung diseases like chronic bronchitis (COPD)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heart attacks and arrhythmias in those with existing heart disease<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increased risk of hospitalisation and early death from respiratory and cardiovascular
