Australia has a vast network of rural roads that is the backbone of the economy but also a \u2018death\u2019 zone for many Australian drivers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u2018paradox\u2019 of economic vibrancy and loss of life has no balance, and it is important to know more about Australian rural roads to understand their contribution and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/27469300_Road_Safety_in_Rural_and_Remote_areas_of_Australia\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">why rural road safety must be prioritized<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at all costs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One life is too many if motorists on rural and remote roads succumb to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ruralhealth.org.au\/media-release\/road-safety-life-and-death-issue-rural-and-remote-australia\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fatal accidents<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is imperative to reduce the heavy <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/research.qut.edu.au\/carrsq\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/296\/2021\/04\/Rural-remote-road-safety.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">burden of road toll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in rural Australia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some must know statistics about Australia\u2019s rural road safety:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2020, 40% of fatalities on rural roads occurred on weekends.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rural road accidents account for 65% of the Australian national road toll.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are double serious road related injuries in rural areas than urban areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regional and remote areas experience road trauma fatality rate 5-times more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regional and remote vs urban areas fatalities % per 100,000 population (2.6 vs 12.2).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0001457510003933?via%3Dihub\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At-risk groups<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: residents, young male drivers, truck drivers, and indigenous people.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Contributing factors to the occurrence of rural road crashes in Australia.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many contributing factors that lead to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/austroads.com.au\/publications\/road-safety\/agrs05-06\/media\/AGRS05-06_Guide_to_Road_Safety_Part_5_Road_Safety_for_Rural_and_Remote_Areas.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">occurrences of rural road crashes in Australia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
