GRT Road Safety Initiative to Improve Road Safety in the Middle East \u2013 Every 30 seconds a person is killed in a road crash. That\u2019s more than 3,300 deaths a day, and more than 1.2 million deaths each year, worldwide.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Road crashes are a global problem and in the Middle East it is worse than many other regions, with a recent report finding road crashes are the fourth leading cause of death in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

These crashes are due to a number of factors, including excessive speeding and poor road design.<\/span><\/p>\n

Global Road Technology managing director Troy Adams said most of these deaths were preventable.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe incidence of road crashes in the Middle East is rising at an alarming rate and is now the leading cause of death among young adults,\u201d Mr Adams said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAn effective road safety strategy needs to be developed and implemented, and an essential component must be improving the quality and durability of the roads.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been working to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities due to poor infrastructure around the world, and have now set our sights on the UAE, where it is needed most.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cOur polymer technology<\/a> is a cost-effective solution to doing so, significantly reducing airborne dust and light soil erosion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Global Road Technology recently completed works in the UAE to protect the archaeologically sensitive Mleiha fort site from the impacts of modern tourism.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was during this project that we realised how dangerous some of the roads in the region are, and identified an opportunity for improvement,\u201d Mr Adams said.<\/span><\/p>\n

As well as improving infrastructure, Global Road Technology works to improve road safety and educate children in the community about road safety, through its \u2018road safety\u2019 initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWith 500 children dying every day due to road crashes, it\u2019s essential that we educate them about the dangers of the road.”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur three-step road safety initiative teaches children in rural, remote and disadvantaged communities how to \u2018survive the walk, survive the ride, and survive the drive\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As well as delivering educational material, Global Road Technology provides bike helmets, child car seats, and high visibility backpacks to families in need.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company is currently in discussions with UAE government authorities and local companies to expand its work in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n
